We got to know Portugal and learnt fluent Portuguese when we lived and worked in Lisbon from 1977-1983. During this time we visited the Algarve frequently and bought an old house in the São Brás de Alportel area which we have gradually done up over the years. We currently live and work in Madrid and continue to return to our house in the Algarve several times a year. More recently, we have built Casa Idalina and deliberately opted for a place inland within easy reach of the coast. This decision was based on our experience that this is the best way to combine enjoyment of authentic rural Portugal with easy access to all the fun holiday facilities that are available close by.
